Reader subscription privacy

Gabriel Tait collects your first name, email address, optional broad location category and a dated record of your consent to send occasional promotional emails about books, releases, contests, readings and author news. Location is never inferred. Signing up does not enter a contest or make a purchase.

This is single opt-in: email ownership is not verified and no confirmation email is sent. Your records are stored privately in the website’s Cloudflare D1 database, processed by the existing hosting providers, potentially outside Canada. Only Gabriel and authorized administrative tools can access them. They are not sold, placed in public files or sent to analytics. A non-identifying sign-up counter may be recorded where existing privacy settings permit it.

Active records are retained while subscribed. Unsubscribed records are retained only to prevent further contact and preserve consent evidence, reviewed annually and deleted after three years unless a legal obligation requires longer retention. You may request access, correction or deletion. Deletion removes the contact and consent history from the operational database; hosting backups may retain copies according to provider recovery policies. No independent automated backup schedule is currently configured. Owner CSV exports must be kept securely.

Unsubscribe at any time using your saved unsubscribe link or by emailing gtaitbooks@gmail.com. No fee or account is required. Requests will be actioned within ten business days; link withdrawals take effect immediately. Future promotional emails must include sender identification and unsubscribe instructions. No marketing emails are sent by this initial system.

For abuse prevention, a secret-salted hourly hash of the connection address is held in a rate-limit counter for up to one hour, without storing the raw address. It is not used for identity or analytics. Hosting security logs are governed separately by the hosting provider.
